LAKE SCHOOL TO INDUCT IRISH DANCE TEACHER GERALDINE RYAN AS A LEGEND of the LAKE, KILMORE JUNE 30

The Lake School Committee is pleased to announce that it will induct Geraldine Ryan as its Legend of the Lake for 2018 as part of the Kilmore Celtic Festival in Kilmore on Saturday June 30 2018 at 4pm.

Melbourne resident, Geraldine Ryan has been teaching Irish dancing for over 75 years, and has been recognised internationally – in 2013 she was presented with the Gradham Award in Boston by the Irish Dance Commission (at the International Irish Dance World Championships), as well as locally – The Artist of Year at the Koroit Irish Festival (2017). Geraldine has a grinding schedule teaching in regional Victoria – Hamilton, Crossley, Wodonga, Kilmore and Warragul, but according to friends “ Geraldine shows no signs of slowing up,” and has said herself, “ I am passionate about passing on what I can to the next generation of dancers.”

Geraldine was the first person to outside Ireland and England to gain registration with the Irish Dance Commission, she tours internationally with her dancers on an annual basis, and served for 15 years as the Secretary for the Melbourne Irish Festival.

Geraldine will be inducted by Melbourne singer, Sue Foley, who performs with the renown celtic band, Bhan Tre.

The induction will be held as apart of the Lake School’s Launch of its 2019 20th Lake School program, the event to be staged in Koroit (January 2-7 2019).
