Launch of the 25th LAKE SCHOOL and the induction of MERRAN MOIR as a LEGEND of the LAKE
At CROSSLEY HALL, Saturday, June 24 from 2.30 pm
with music by Aniar, Hapistry, and Western District Harpists.
Merran Moir was raised on a dairy farm in Southwestern Victoria, where she learned bagpipes as a child from her father. She has been actively and passionately involved in music-making ever since. Merran was one of the first female members of the City of Melbourne Pipe Band and played on the recording of John Farnham’s “You’re The Voice.” She has attended Lake School since 2006 as a tutor, parent, and student (learning uilleann pipes with Jack Brennan and harp with Cath Connelly), and currently tutors the ‘Stars On The Lake’ Program, which this year saw her mentor the very talented band Apolline. She has lead a tune-learning group at Cudgee for a number of years and currently leads a tune group at Crossley on Thursday nights. Merran plays in a number of bands including The Southern Ocean Sea Band and has been a classroom music teacher in the Southwest for 30 plus years. Merran will be inducted as a Legend of the Lake by fellow Southern Ocean Sea-band member and Moyne Shire Councillor, Jordy Lockett.
