Stars on the Lake

The Stars On The Lake is a program that the Lake School has run since 2007 to encourage talented young Celtic musicians. In most cases the musicians have formed bands that have gone on to play at festivals around Australia, and more recently around the world. Our 2025 stars will form a band under the tutelage of Warrnambool based music teacher, piper, whistler and Southern Ocean Sea band member, Merran Moir. The Stars on The Lake program is supported by the Port Fairy Folk Festival.

2025 Stars on the Lake

Ailish Moran

Ailish Moran from Wodonga Victoria is making her way to the stage at Koroit at just seventeen, playing the Irish concertina. A passionate member of the music group Ceoltóirí Naarm, she brings a young energy and deep love for traditional Irish music to every performance. Her dedication led her to Ireland, where she not only competed in the prestigious All-Ireland competition but also made her way to different counties around the country where she could immerse herself in the music. She’s excited to share her music and passion at Koroit, celebrating the splendid spirit of Irish culture alongside two other incredible musicians.

Dubhessa Bryant

Dubhessa Bryant is returning to Koroit for her 10th Lake School and is overjoyed to be participating in Stars on the Lake. Since her first Lake School in 2016, Dubhessa has been captivated by the traditional Irish music scene, travelling to traditional and folk music festivals in Australia and Ireland. After jumping between a few instruments, she picked up the banjo during the pandemic and hasn’t looked back. She also sings and has begun learning traditional Irish songs. Her banjo inspirations include Brain McGrath, Elaine Reilly and Kieran Hanrahan. Dubhessa is very excited to collaborate with her sister Tadhg, and talented musician and close friend Ailish Moran in this year’s Stars on the Lake.

Tadhg Bryant

Tadhg Bryant is a young fiddle player from Melbourne. Over the years she has played many musical styles, but after picking up the violin at age 8, she soon developed a love for traditional Irish music. This is Tadhgs 10th year at the Lake School, and she is looking forward to being a part of Stars on the Lake. She is excited to be taking to the stage alongside her older sister Dubhessa, and close friend since meeting at the lake school at age 12, Ailish Moran. Tadhg particularly loves the playing of Sorcha Costello, James Kelly, and the Kane sisters, and is excited to share her passion for Irish music with the Lake School.
